As of 30 April 2025, the Victorian Government has officially launched a Worker Mental Health Support Helpline.
Announced last year as part of a $50 million investment, the helpline will provide access to counselling services for workers from small to medium-sized businesses.
Work-related mental injuries currently make up 18 percent of all workers compensation claims in Victoria.
The average adult spends about a third of their life at work, meaning workplaces play a fundamental role in protecting, improving and supporting mental health.
Workers using the free and confidential service will be supported by trained counsellors to address issues such as work-related stress and burnout.
However, the helpline is not limited to work-related concerns. Workers can access support for anything affecting their wellbeing.
The program is intended to support workers to manage their wellbeing before they potentially develop an injury that might need medical treatment or time off work.
If you are an employee in a business with less than 200 staff members and with no similar service already in place, you can access up to four sessions of free and confidential 24/7 support via telehealth by calling 1800 318 421.
